Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac - by Gabrielle Zevin

"a perfect mix of romance and suspense, Zevin makes it personal"

Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac is a great, entertaining read. It is pretty rare for me to find a book that I can read very quickly. I found myself thinking about the book all the time, wondering what would happen next. I couldn’t put it down.  It's an ideal young adult book - fun to read and really interesting.

The main character Naomi is a high school girl that comes face to face with fate after falling down the stairs of her school. Her fall causes her to lose her memory, which changes up her already crazy life in tremendous ways. She is suddenly faced with the fact that she can’t remember the past four years, which have been the most eventful in her lifetime. She has to realize that her life is dramatically different than it was when she was in seventh grade. Her dad has to explain her parent’s divorce. She has to face her best friend that she can’t remember, as well as her boyfriend that she can’t remember why she liked in the first place. Going back to school is hard enough in itself, and she basically has to start a new life based on what she can and can’t remember. Naomi goes through highs and lows throughout her experience, and through it all discovers her true self.

This book is great for a light, entertaining read. It is a perfect mix of romance and suspense. Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac portrays high school life as it truly is. So any teenager can relate to Naomi’s story in some way. I could particularly relate because I’m a seventeen year old girl, just like Naomi.  Gabrielle Zevin does an excellent job depicting Naomi’s life. It was nice to be able to get away and put yourself in a completely different life that’s exciting and interesting. I felt like I was in Naomi’s shoes as I read this book because Zevin does such a good job making her story personal to the reader. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone looking for a fun read. Any high schooler or even anyone wondering what a teenager’s life can be like should read this book. If you’re looking for a page turner with an exciting story, you won’t be disappointed in Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac.
